TV PRODUCTION TEACHER (GRADES K-5)

Hello, My name is Ms. Maryuma. I teach TV Production to students in Grades K-5 at Plumosa School of the Arts. This will be my seventh year teaching at Plumosa. I am excited for a great school year!

TV Production is one of the many fine arts classes that are offered at Plumosa School of the Arts for grades K - 5.  In this class, studio class students (grades 3-5) will produce content for a daily morning show (morning announcements) and taped segments.  The show follows a similar format as a regular newscast, such as giving breaking news, weather, and what’s going on in our community.  Students in this class will act as the “eyes and ears” to make sure everyone knows what’s happening at Plumosa.

Studio class students are at mixed levels.  Some students are entering their third year, as fifth graders and others their first year, as third graders.  No matter what level of television knowledge they have, by the end of the year, all students will have the ability to produce, direct, anchor, and operate all equipment in the TV studio.  Students will also develop special projects through creative writing, filming, reporting, and editing.  By the end of the school year, all students will have learned how to thrive in the fast-paced world of television news.

Just like professional journalists, all students in this class will be required to keep up with current events.  Outside of class, they should watch the news, research stories on the Internet, and be on patrol for what students find interesting.  Students in grades K – 2 will learn about and work on smaller, easier level projects, such as creating weather props to be used for the daily morning show/newscast with the higher grade levels (studio class students).

After our newscast, students will work on preparing for the next day’s news, as well as learn the basics of television production.  Students may have one or more projects that they are working on at once and learn the art of multi-tasking in this class.  Students who practice good multi-tasking skills will excel in this class!
